Dell acquires Quest Software

Dell/Quest Software

One of the more exciting acquisitions in a while is Dell’s purchase of Quest Software. Quest has been nearly invisible in the VDI space–until now. Why would Desktop Virtualization (fka vWorkspace) and other great tools be invisible? The Desktop Virtualization product brings to the table an ease of deployment that unmatched–especially by Citrix products, where the learning curve can get pretty steep.

Desktop Virtualization, in particular, is an exciting prospect for many reasons. It’s cheaper than XenDesktop and XenApp. It’s factors easier to deploy with its wizard-driven deployment tree and single management console. This VDI option provides small to medium businesses an easy way in without being restricted because of less-than-well-thought-out simplification (think Citrix’s VDI-In-a-Box).

A great product just got a new boost from a company with some pockets, a vast distribution channel, and a motivated sales force and a full network of implementation partners.
